This is my first go at a WordPress blog. I know it works. I’ve used it in my teaching (excellent), and I’ve seen it all over the web.
But…
It’s not as good as Movable Type. (I don’t think. Then again, I’ve only been at it five minutes. Probably unfair. Maybe I’m just used to the one I’ve always used. Still…)
It seems a bit twee. A bit pleased with itself. Too geeky by half.
For instance…I already hate, and will hate forever, the way I have to move my mouse over listed posts to get the edit | delete | etc. tools to show.
I have no idea why designers think this is a good idea. I don’t know about you, but I never ever play peekaboo with my tools when I’m working.
Nice theme, though. Anybody got a clue what city it is?
Onward and, er, upward, I suppose.
The use of TypePad has plateaued for several years now, compared to WordPress, which has consistently grown. I can’t add my own experience, because I’ve only used Moveable Type very briefly. WordPress did undertake a very thorough series of user testing recently before they completely redesigned their admin interface, so what you have now it the most thoroughly tested user interface of any blogging tool. Get used to it! 🙂
